Scary Bible Stories — Genesis 19:26

Genesis 19:26 But Lot’s wife looked back and she became a pillar of salt.

Lot’s wife lost it all by one simple act – she looked back.  You ask, “What was wrong with that?”  Like so many folks her eyes and her heart were turned to things of the past that God had forsaken.  She failed to look forward, and it cost her life.  Have you considered how you are called to look forward?

Your Forward Design  — You were designed to look forward.  Take a moment to consider your design.  Your feet are turned forward.  Your eyes are not placed on the side of your head nor the back of your head.  You were designed to go forward.

Your Forward Directive – God’s command for Lot and his family was very specific.  Go forward and get out of Sodom.  In your life God’s commands are no less specific.  You must move forward, and the only way you can do that is to leave behind the mess of your past.

Your Forward Devotion – What was in the backward look of Lot’s wife that was so awful?  Was it a sideways glance that caused her trouble?  Was it a look over her shoulder?  Those acts may have contributed to her downfall, but it was her heart’s devotion that was her ruination.  Her heart was devoted to the devilment of the past and not the God of the future.  It wasn’t just a question of where her eyes wandered.  It was a question of where her heart was directed.  Is your heart turned toward God and God alone?
