Liability – John the Baptizer came to reach his generation.  Like all who preceded they were suffering from the liability of sin.

Atonement  — The Old Testament covenant provided only a way to roll back sin until it could be removed permanently.

Mediator – What was needed was not just another animal sacrifice.  What was needed was a mediator to go between God and humanity.  Example: I received a call from a student and an email from an instructor.  What both needed was a grade mediator, and they were asking that I be the mediator.

Blameless – No ordinary mediator would suffice. A blameless mediator was needed.  Jesus’ blamelessness was confirmed at the time of his baptism by John

Exemplary Story:  Inside my kitchen cabinet is taped a paper clipping with a list of natural stain removers provided by Greenpeace.  To remove rust stains use milk or lemon juice; to remove coffee stains use egg yolk and lukewarm water; to remove fruit stains use salt and milk; and to remove blood use cold water.  In this list there is not effective stain remover for sin.  You need the lamb of God for that.
