Communion Meditation – Luke 23:39-43 – Two Criminals on Golgotha

When Jesus was crucified he was placed between two criminals. What an miscarriage of justice.   Great theological arguments have been fought over the fate of the thief who was promised to be with Jesus in paradise.  Perhaps that worry misses the point.

One man chose to blame God for his fate and to belittle Jesus.  His taunts joined those of the leaders who were mocking Jesus.

The other man chose to look within, to recognize his own failure, to confirm the innocence of Jesus, and to call upon the Lord.

Both made a choice, but only one man was prepared to receive the mercy of Christ.

As we approach the Lord’s Table look deep within.  Ask yourself, “Am I prepared receive the mercy of Christ?
