God’s Grievance Policy for Students – I Peter 5:6-10

The administration directed me to post for students a grievance policy.  The policy stated how they were to follow the proper protocol for voicing their grievances.  For our student chapel I offered a meditation on “God’s Grievance Policy”

“Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand, that he may lift you up in due time.  Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.

“ Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.  Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that your brothers throughout the world are undergoing the same kind of sufferings.

“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. I Peter 5:5-10

If you have a grievance you must know the proper procedure and follow it to be heard.  It is so at the academy and it is so spiritually.  God has given us all a grievance policy to follow.

Who?  You need to know to whom you should express your grievances.  Speak to God. Too often individuals are expressing their grievances to individuals who do not listen, do not care, or do not have the power to change the situation.  Mumbling and murmuring will not resolve grievances.  Speak to God.  Cast all your anxieties on God.

What? State your grievance plainly.  To do this you must be in touch with your inner person.  You must know what is troubling you.  Don’t be confused about what the issue is. Cast your anxieties on God.

How? Be prepared to admit error.  Yes, we have grievances, but we must state our grievances in a spirit of humility.  Humble yourselves under God’s mighty hand. Be self-controlled and be alert.

Why? We cast our cares on God because he cares for us.  Within the world there is an enemy at work to undermine our joy, our faith, and our lives.  We may even undermine ourselves.  In spite of those obstacles we have someone greater on our side that cares for us.  God cares for you.

When?  Every grievance committee seems to have a schedule and its own turn-around time that cannot be hurried.  God has God’s own time for responding.  After you have suffered a little while, God will himself restore you and make you strong, firm, and steadfast.

When you have a grievance, follow the steps of God’s grievance policy. You will be amazed and encourage to find He cares for you.
