Communion Meditation – Hebrews 9:13-14 – Good Credit

During one holiday shopping season I stood behind a very frustrated shopper.  All her credit cards were declined at the checkout.

Every have that sinking feeling when your credit card is declined?  I was traveling across country one summer, and my credit card statement was not forwarded to me in time for payment.  You guessed it.  Ding.

No doubt you have heard the commercial that some merchants do not honor one major card but they will take the competitor’s card.  You need the right credit.  If not, ding.

So often we try to pay for our sins with credit that is not honored by God: our good works, our church attendance, our good looks, or our money.

There is a line of credit that God has promised to honor — it is the blood of Christ.  It is available to you when you need it.  There’s no need to get up and go to the church lobby. You can apply for it today as you receive communion.

Hebrews 9:13-14 says: For if the blood of bulls and of goats, and the ashes of an heifer sprinkling the unclean, sanctifieth to the purifying of the flesh; how much more shall the blood of Christ, who through the eternal Spirit offered himself without spot to God, purge your conscience from dead works to serve the living God?
