Dereliction – v. 10 – Shepherds of God’s people were neglecting their duties. God calls all leaders to account for their neglect.
Abuse – v. 21 – Someone said that a bully is someone who has been bullied. I suppose that is true. In church those who hurt others are the hurting.
Visitation – vs. 11-12 – God has not forgotten his people. Never doubt that God has not forgotten his own. He will visit them.
Interest – vs. 15-16 – Read these verses about the loving care the shepherd offers for his sheep. He will bind up their wounds and strengthen the weak. God does care about you
Divine Line – v. 23 – God promises to send one shepherd from the house of David. That one shepherd would have the shepherd’s heart for God’s people. That one shepherd is Jesus of Nazareth.
Exemplary story: While traveling I found myself behind a livestock trailer. The trailer was full of newly sheared sheep. Each sheep was wearing a coat. Sheep are delicate animals that need a shepherd’s loving care. As the fold of God we need the shepherding of God’s Son.
