Luke 9:16 Taking the five loaves and two fish and looking up to heaven, he gave thanks and broke them.  Then he gave them to the disciples to set before the people.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for being a giver of abundance.

Thought for the day: Jesus’ disciples didn’t turn down a meal of leftovers.

Luke 9:20 “But what about you?” he asked.  “Who do you say that I am?” Peter answered, “The Christ of God.”

Prayer: O God, we confess with others through the centuries that Jesus is the Christ.

Thought for the day: What you say about Jesus is far more important than what the latest popular poll says.

Luke 9:23 Then he said to them all: “If anyone would come after me, he must deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me.”

Prayer:  Jesus, help us today to make the sacrifice to follow you.

Thought for the day: Many bear crosses for political causes or physical hardships, but few bear a cross of suffering for Christ.

Luke 9:35 A voice came from the cloud, saying, “This is my Son, whom I have chosen; listen to him.”

Prayer:  O God, help us to hear Jesus as Your Son.

Thought for the day: You decide whether Jesus advice is the first advice you seek or the last.

Luke 9:62 Jesus replied, “No one who puts his hand to the plow and looks back is fit for service in the kingdom of God.”

Prayer:  God, give us the strength to follow Jesus faithfully.

Thought for the day: Discipleship is a lifetime adventure and not a weekend extravaganza.

Luke 10:2 He told them, “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field.

Prayer:  Jesus, send your workers into the field to rescue those who are lost.

Thought for the day: A good farmer wastes no time in harvesting the crops when they are at their peak.

Luke 10:20 However, do not rejoice that the spirits submit to you, but rejoice that your names are written in heaven.

Prayer:  O Jesus, keep us ever centered on our relationship with you.

Thought for the day: There is power in the name of Jesus for those who know him.
