Matthew 26:3-4 — Communion Meditation on Execution

In North Carolina the only legal means of execution is lethal injection.  In Tennessee a man or woman sentenced to death may die by electrocution. Still other states may execute men or women by hanging, by poison gas or by a firing squad.

Matthew 26: 3-4 says: Then the chief priests and the elders of the people assembled in the palace of the high priest, whose name was Caiphas, and they plotted to arrest Jesus in some sly way and kill him.

The Jewish leaders of the people chose to have Jesus executed by one of the most inhumane methods possible, that is, by crucifixion.

Why?  Why would Jesus endure this?  A song writer put it this way:  Jesus to Calvary did go.  His love for mankind to show.  Oh how he loved you and me.

May we remember this supreme love as we share in the loaf and the cup.
