A Verse by Verse Life of Christ in Luke’s Gospel — Week Nine

Week Nine

Sunday, March 1

Luke 16:22,23 The time came when the beggar died and the angels carried him to Abraham’s side. The rich man also died and was buried. In hell, where he was in torment, he looked up and saw Abraham far away, and Lazarus by his side.
Prayer: Jesus, prepare us today for the life to come.
Thought for the day: Pleas of innocence do not dissolve the prison bars of justice.

Monday, March 2

Luke 17:1 Jesus said to his disciples: “things that cause people to sin are bound to come, but woe to that person through whom they come.
Prayer: O God, let us become building blocks for the faith of others.
Thought for the day: Someone is watching how you live your faith.

Tuesday, March 3

Luke 17:6 He replied, “If you have faith as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this mulberry tree, ‘Be uprooted and planted in the sea,’ and it will obey you.”
Prayer: Jesus, in faith may we bless others in your name.
Thought for the day: Even plants respond to positive talk.

Wednesday, March 4

Luke 17:15 One of them when he saw that he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice.
Prayer: God, for this day we would return to you to offer the thanks that is your due.
Thought for the day: When you thank someone two people receive the benefit.

Thursday, March 7

Luke 17:26 Just as it was in the days of Noah, so also will it be I the days of the Son of Man.
Prayer: O God, we beseech you to save this generation from itself.
Thought for the day: God has seen the worst in humanity and also the best.

Friday, March 6

Luke 18:7 And will not God bring about justice for his chosen ones, who cry out to him day and night? Will he keep putting them off?
Prayer: O God, thank you for answering prayer in your way and your time.
Thought for the day: Answers to prayer take more than just one form; they may be yes, no, not yet, or wait and see.

Saturday, March 7

Luke 18:14 I tell you this man, rather than the other, went home justified before God. For everyone who exalts himself will be humbled, and he who humbles himself will be exalted.
Prayer: O Jesus, in prayer we can only come before you in humility.
Thought for the day: Those who enjoy real self-confidence can admit their strengths and their weaknesses.
