Verse by Verse Life of Christ in Luke’s Gospel — Weeks Thirteen and Fourteen

Week Thirteen

Sunday, March 29

Luke 23:46 Jesus called out with a loud voice, “Father into your hands I commit my spirit.” When he had said this, he breathed his last.
Prayer: O Jesus, to the end you trusted the Father.
Thought for the day: Even in the darkest hours there is refuge in God’s will.

Monday, March 30

Luke 23:52,53 Going to Pilate, [Joseph of Arimathea] asked for Jesus’ body. Then he took it down, wrapped it in linen cloth and placed it in a tomb cut in the rock, one in which no one had yet been laid.
Prayer: God, may we honor the lives of all fallen soldiers of faith.
Thought for the day: It was fitting that Jesus would enter the world as a human and leave it as a human.

Tuesday, March 31

Luke 24:1 On the first day of the week, very early in the morning, the women took the spices they had prepared and went to the tomb.
Prayer: O God, where there is sorrow, let us bring consolation.

Wednesday, April 1

Luke 24: 2, 3 They found the stone rolled away from the tomb, but when they entered, they did not find the body of the lord Jesus.
Prayer: Praise God, Jesus lives.
Thought for the day: To this hour those who have studied the forensic evidence of the resurrection confirm its truth.

Thursday, April 2

Luke 24: 25,26 He said to them, “How foolish you are, and how slow of heart to believe all that the prophets have spoken! Did not the Christ have to suffer these things and then enter his glory?”
Prayer: O Jesus, your love was so great you had to suffer for us.
Thought for the day: In the circle of faith there are times when we must hear and accept the words, “I told you so.”

Friday, April 3

Luke 24:38, 39 He said to them, “Why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds? Look at my hands and my feet. It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”
Prayer: O Jesus, help us to lay aside our troubled spirits to enjoy the power of faith.
Thought for the day: Jesus’ resurrection was a bodily resurrection.

Saturday, April 4

Luke 24:45,46 He opened their minds so they could understand the Scriptures. He told them, “This is what is written: The Christ will suffer and rise from the dead on the third day.
Prayer: O Jesus, open our minds to teach us of your great life and ministry.
Thought for the day: When a child learns a new idea, the child begins to discover the idea in the most unexpected places again and again.

Week Fourteen

Sunday, April 5

Luke 24:50,51 When he had led them out to the vicinity of Bethany, he lifted up his hands and blessed them. While he was blessing them, he left them and was taken up into heaven.
Prayer: O Jesus, from heaven to earth you came, and from earth to heaven you have returned until you take your children home.
Thought for the day: As a songwriter said, it may be morning, it may be noon, it may be evening, or it may be soon. Jesus is coming again.
