Monday, August 17
Haggai 1:9 You expected much, but see, it turned out to be little. What you brought home, I blew away. Why? Declares the Lord almighty. Because of my house, which remains a ruin while each of you is busy with his own house.
Prayer: God, may you forgive us for all those time when you and your work were not first.
Thought for the day: When we lack blessings, we may lack most the God of blessings.

Haggai 1:14 So the Lord stirred up the spirit of Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, governor of Judah, and the Spirit of Joshua son of Jehozadak, and the high priest, and the spirit of the whole remnant of the people. They came and began to work on the house of the Lord Almighty, their God.
Prayer: Jesus, may your Holy Spirit raise us leaders whom we may follow in service to you.
Thought for the day: Inspired leadership can show you the shortest route to the house of God.

Haggai 2: 3 Who of you is left who saw this house in its former glory? How does it look to you now? Does it not seem to you like nothing?
Prayer: God, may you remind us the greatest days of glory lie ahead in fellowship with you.
Thought for the day: Solomon worshiped in the first temple in glory, but Jesus worshiped in the second temple in holiness and righteousness.
Thursday, August 20
Haggai 2:9 The glory of this present house will be greater than the glory of the former house, says the Lord Almighty. And in this place I will grant peace, declares the Lord Almighty.
Prayer: O God, bring to our worship centers public and private the glory of your peace.
Thought for the day: To appreciate peace one must listen.
Friday, August 21
Haggai 2:19 Is there yet any seed left in the barn? Until now, the vine and the fig tree, the pomegranate and the olive tree have not borne fruit. From this day on I will bless you.
Prayer: O God, may you replace our days of lack with your blessing of abundance.
Thought for the day: Like many fruit trees the fig bush produces fruit in the third year.
Saturday, August 21
Haggai 2:23 On that day, declares the Lord Almighty, I will take you, my servant Zerubbabel son of Shealtiel, declares the Lord, and I will make you like my signet ring, for I have chosen you, declares the Lord Almighty.
Prayer: Jesus, thank you for the testimony of promise keeping we find in scripture.
Thought for the day: While the artist promised only fifteen minutes of fame, God promises a lifetime of blessings.
