Week Forty-One – Verse by Verse Devotional Series – Letters of John – I John 5:1-12

Sunday, October 11

I John 5:1 Everyone who believes that Jesus is the Christ is born of God, and everyone who loves the father loves his child as well.

Prayer: Dear God, thank you for sending your only begotten son.

Thought for the day: Happy is the parent whose child knows it is loved.

Monday, October 12

I John 5:2,3 This is how we know that we love the children of God: by loving God and carrying out his commands. This is love for God: to obey his commands. And his commands are not burdensome.

Prayer: Jesus, let us love God’s children with a Christ-like love.

Thought for the day: Command keeping like exercise becomes easier with practice.

Tuesday, October 13

I John 5:4,5 for everyone born of God has overcome the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith. Who is it that overcomes the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Prayer: Jesus, in the strength of your spirit let us overcome the world.

Thought for the day: Why join the world, when you can overcome the world in faith?

Wednesday, October 14

I John 5:6 This is the one who came by water and blood – Jesus Christ. He did not come by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit who testifies, because the Spirit is the truth.

Prayer: Jesus, we remember you were born of a woman and you died as a man.

Thought for the day: Some are martyrs in word, and some are martyrs in deed.

Thursday, October 15

I John 5:7,8 For there are three that testify: the Spirit, the water, and the blood; and the three are in agreement.

Prayer: Thanks be to God for the Son born, the Son crucified, and the Son raised to life everlasting.

Thought for the day: Who would dare to deny the simple evidence that Jesus was born of Mary, Jesus died on a cross, and Jesus’ tomb stands empty?

Friday, October 16

I John 5:10 Anyone who believes in the Son of God has this testimony in his heart. Anyone who does not believe God has made him out to be a liar, because he has not believed the testimony God has given about his Son.

Prayer: Lord, I want to be a Christian in’a my heart, in’a my heart.

Thought for the day: Believing God can simplify life.

Saturday, October 17

I John 5:12 He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life.

Prayer: O God, wherever the good news of your Son goes, there the people find life.

Thought for the day: Is there anyone who should not know Jesus?
