Week Forty-Three – Verse by Verse Devotional Series – Letters of John – John II

Sunday, October 25

2 John 1,2 To the chosen lady and her children, whom I love in the truth – and not I only, but also all who know the truth – because of the truth which lives in us and will be with us forever.
Prayer: O God, may the truth living in us enable us to love all your children.
Thought for the day: Some truths have no expiration date.

Monday, October 26

II John 3 Grace, mercy and peace from God the Father and from Jesus Christ, the Father’s Son, will be with us in truth and love.
Prayer: Jesus, we would receive your grace, mercy, and peace.
Thought for the day: When suffering from insomnia try the combination of grace, mercy, and peace from God.

Tuesday, October 27

II John 4 It has given me great joy to find some of your children walking in the truth, just as the Father commanded us.
Prayer: God, as children in faith we are grateful for all those saints who have modeled the Christian life.
Thought for the day: The lyrics to an old hymn say, “There is joy in serving Jesus.”

Wednesday, October 28

II John 5 And now, dear lady, I am not writing you a new command but one we have had from the beginning. I ask that we love one another.
Prayer: Jesus, by the power of your Holy Spirit we would love others.
Thought for the day: Jesus would not have refused anyone a hug.

Thursday, October 29

II John 6 And this is love: that we walk in obedience to his commands. As you have heard from the beginning, his command is that you walk in love.
Prayer: O God, in love and not fear may we obey your command.
Thought for the day: Walking in obedience is good exercise for the spiritual heart.

Friday, October 30

II John 8,9 Watch out that you do not lose what you have worked for, but that you may be rewarded fully. Anyone who runs ahead and does not continue in the teaching of Christ does not have God; whoever continues in the teaching has both the Father and the Son.
Prayer: Jesus, help us not to run ahead of you.
Thought for the day: The best runners do not stumble over their feet.

Saturday, October 31

II John 10,11 If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not take him into your house or welcome him. Anyone who welcomes him shares in his wicked work.
Prayer: Jesus, give us a spirit of discernment that we may uphold your true servants.
Thought for the day: Valuable endorsements are not free.
