Communion Meditation – Luke 9:30-31 – Leave Taking Conversations

Once I gave my father a well-tooled leather belt.  He wore it with pride and showed it to his friends.  Then it disappeared.  Later my father said he was keeping it for his funeral.  That was one of our leave taking conversations.  Those conversations are heavy and focus upon loved ones.

Jesus had a leave taking conversation on the day he was transfigured.  I suppose he was speaking of the sacrifice he would make for his loved one like you and me.

Listen to Luke 9:30-31: Two men, Moses and Elijah, appeared in glorious splendor, talking with Jesus.  They spoke about his departure, which he was about to bring to fulfillment at Jerusalem.

As we approach the Lord’s Table let us remember that Jesus always had us in mind as he prepared himself to depart from this life.
