Week Forty-Four – Verse by Verse Devotional Series – Letters of John – III John

Sunday, November 1

III John 3 It gave me great joy to have some brothers come and tell about your faithfulness to the truth and how you continue to walk in the truth.

Prayer: O God, may our faith bring joy to you our creator.

Thought for the day: Making someone’s day is a big thing.

Monday, November 2

III John 4 I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.

Prayer: Jesus, there is joy in serving you.

Thought for the day: Your spiritual parents do care about your spiritual welfare.

Tuesday, November 3

III John 5,6 Dear friend, you are faithful in what you are doing for the brothers, even though they are strangers to you. They have told the church about your love. You will do well to send them on their way in a manner worthy of God.

Prayer: Jesus, may we offer the support that is needed to your servants.

Thought for the day: For some servant of God you may be the connection between the dots.

Wednesday, November 4

III John 7,8 It was for the sake of the Name that they went out, receiving no help from the pagans. We ought therefore to show hospitality to such men so that we may work together for the truth.

Prayer: Jesus, we give our thanks for every servant who serves well in your name.

Thought for the day: At five-star institutions hospitality begins before check-in and continues after check-out.

Thursday, November 5

III John 11 Dear friend, do not imitate what is evil but what is good. Anyone who does what is good is from God. Anyone who does what is evil has not seen God.

Prayer: God, may you ever bring to mind the examples of faith that we might do likewise.

Thought for the day: Extraordinary imitation is inspired by extraordinary examples.

Friday, November 6

III John 12 Demetrius is well spoken of by everyone – and even by the truth itself. We also speak well of him, and you know that our testimony is true.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for all your servants who have been found faithful.

Thought for the day: Truth commands its own complement.

Saturday, November 7

III John 13,14 I have much to write you, but I do not want to do so with pen and ink. I hope to see you soon, and we will talk face to face. Peace to you. The friends here send their greetings. Greet the friends there by name.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for all those who have personally delivered the gospel to us.

Thought for the day: A friend is the object of the transitive verb befriend.
