Happy New Year, 2016. January marks the beginning of a new month, a new year, and a new billing cycle.
To make sure that I do not forget them, the county tax assessor office promptly sent me a notice about the price I would pay to live in their county another year. The notice arrived in my mailbox on January 2.
The prophets Isaiah and Ezekiel both were looking forward to a new year when God would set up an everlasting covenant. Of course, that everlasting covenant could not be delivered until its price was paid, and to pay that price Jesus gave his life.
Ezekiel 37:26 says, “I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant. I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever.”
As we approach the Lord’s Table let us remember the blood of the new covenant is the paid-in-full price for the everlasting covenant. God has kept God’s word to make this everlasting covenant for you and me. Will you renew your covenant with God today?
