Sunday, January 24

John 5:24, 25  I tell you the truth, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be condemned. He has crossed over from death to life.  I tell you the truth, a time is coming and now has come when the dead will hear the voice of the Son of God and those who hear will live.

Prayer:  God, our Father, thank you for sending Jesus to lead us to life eternal.

Thought for the day:  Harriett Tubman is remembered for placing her life at risk to help slaves cross over to freedom.  Have you helped someone cross over to freedom?

Monday, January 25

I John 3:14 We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers.  Anyone who does not love remains in death.

Prayer:  Jesus, we are so grateful that you have put in the heart of believers a love for others.

Thought for the day:  Successful animal rescue missions are about TLC, that is, tender loving care.

Tuesday, January 26

Hebrews 9:27, 28 Just as man is destined to die once, and after that to face judgment, so Christ was sacrificed once to take away the sins of many people and he will appear a second time not to bear sin, but to bring salvation to those who are waiting for him.

Prayer: O Jesus, we are waiting for you, our God-sent savior, the very one sacrificed all for us.

Thought for the day:  When the summons to appear before the judgment of God is issued, Christians will not be extradited from heaven.  

Wednesday, January 27

Matthew 17:5 While he was still speaking, aa bright cloud enveloped them and a voice from the cloud said, “This is my Son, whom I love; with him I am well pleased.  Listen to him.

Prayer:  Dear God, help us to listen to your Son. 

Thought for the day: Do you suppose those churches that have health clinics to check blood pressure should offer hearing test too?

Thursday, January 28

I Thessalonians 4:16 For the Lord himself will come down from heaven, with a loud command, with a voice of the archangel and with the trumpet call of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first.

Prayer:  Jesus, we believers in this generation look forward to hearing your call to life eternal.

 Thought for the day:  When Gustave Holst composed “The Planets,” he honored the ancient idea that there is a musical harmony in the universe, a song of the universe.

Friday, January 29

Proverbs 11:4 Wealth is worthless in the day of wrath, but righteousness delivers from death.

Prayer:  O God, may we be clothed in the righteousness of Christ.

Thought for the day:  Neither the first nor the last car in the funeral procession is a Brinks  armored truck.

Saturday, January 30

Matthew 11:15 He who has ears to hear, let him hear.

Prayer:  Jesus, forgive us, when we have been listening to everyone but you.

Thought for the day:  In most cases listening skills can be improved without electronic amplification.
