Week Thirteen — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Sayings of Jesus in John — John 20:21

Sunday, March 27

John 20:21 Again Jesus said, “Peace be with you! As the Father has sent me, I am sending you.”

Prayer:  Jesus, our Lord, to us you have shown the mercy of granting us peace.

Thought for the day:  A generous peace is far superior to a harsh retribution.

Monday, March 28

John 14:27 Peace I leave with you, my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, though we are often troubled in heart may we accept your abiding peace.

Thought for the day: Peace is a gift that must be well received before one can enjoy its full effects.

Tuesday, March 29

John 16:33, 34 I have told you these things, so that in me you may have peace.  In this world you will have trouble.  But take heart! I have overcome the world.

Prayer:  God, our Heavenly Father, we give thanks for the gift of peace through your Son.

Thought for the day:  Practice to enter often in prayer the peaceful, heavenly city of God.

Wednesday, March 30

John 17:17,18 Sanctify them by the truth; your word is truth.  As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into the world.

Prayer:  Jesus, we confess that as you give us peace you give us your mission.

Thought for the day:  Well respected ambassadors don’t act “any-old-way.”

Thursday, March 31

Philippians 4:7 And the peace of God which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds in Christ Jesus.

Prayer:  Jesus, even when we do not understand we take comfort in your peace.

Thought for the day:  Ask a mother if there are things the mind does not understand but the heart knows fully, and she will answer Yes.

Friday, April 1

Matthew 28:18,19 Then Jesus came to them and said, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me.  Therefore, go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

Prayer:  O Jesus, you have made peace with us and given us a message of hope.

Thought for the day: If you don’t tell others the good news of Jesus’ heavenly hope, who will?

Saturday, April 2

Acts 1:7,8 He said to them, “It is not for you to know the times or dates the Father has set by his own authority.  But you will receive power when the Holy spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Prayer:  O God, let us carry the message of your Son to the ends of the earth.

Thought for the day:  Today Wycliffe Bible Translators are faithfully translating the Bible for people who have no Bible in their native tongue.
