Week Fourteen — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Visions of Jesus after Easter — John 20:27,28

Sunday, April 3

John 20:27,28 Then he said to Thomas, “Put your finger here; see my hands. Reach out your hand and put it into my side. Stop doubting and believe.”

Prayer:  Lord, you have given us the evidence of your resurrection.

Thought for the day:  No one has ever disproven the evidence of the empty tomb.

Monday. April 4

John 20:25  When the other disciples told him that they had seen the Lord, he declared, “Unless I see the nail marks in his hands and put my finger where the nails were, and put my hand into his side, I will not believe it.”

Prayer:  God, our Heavenly Father, we confess that we cling to signs and wonders.

Thought for the day:  Honest doubt accepts the evidence when it is presented.

Tuesday. April 5

John 19:33,34 But when they came to Jesus and found that he was already dead, they did not break his legs.  Instead, one of the soldiers pierced Jesus’ side with a spear, bringing a sudden flow of blood and water.

Prayer:  Jesus, forgive us for every scar that we put upon you.

Thought for the day:  Some scars are victory banners of harsh battles won.

Wednesday, April 6

Zechariah 12:10 And I will pour out on the house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication.  They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and mourn for him as one mourns for an only child, and grieve bitterly for him as one grieve for a firstborn son.

Prayer:  Lord, like the soldiers who attended your death we know it was wrong to let you die in our place.

Thought for the day: Pedestrians should cross the road when the light is red.

Thursday, April 7

Isaiah 53:5 But he was pieced for our transgressions, he was crushed for our iniquities; the punishment that brought us peace was upon him, and by his wounds we are healed.

Prayer:  Jesus, we are humbled to learn that all those wounds you suffered were suffered for our salvation.

Thought for the day:  Some saints believed that if they worshiped and obeyed Jesus perfectly the stigmata would appear on their bodies.

Friday, April 8

Mark 9: 23, 24 “If you can?” said Jesus. “Everything is possible for him who believes.”  Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help my overcome my unbelief!”

Prayer:  Lord, we confess that we do believe you in spite of those moments when we need your strength to believe.

Thought for the day:   Act as if you believe, and the reasons to believe will follow.

Saturday, April 9

Hebrews 11:6 And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.

Prayer:  Jesus, though we were not there when God raised you from the dead, we believe.

Thought for the day:  What bride or groom would want rewrite their marital vows to say, “I don’t”?
