Week Twenty-three — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Visions of Jesus after Easter — Acts 23:11

Sunday, June 5

Acts 23:11 The following night the Lord stood near Paul and said, “Take courage!” As you have testified about me in Jerusalem, so you must also testify in Rome.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, for all the dark night hours when you have come to give us courage we praise you.

Thought for the day:  Never doubt the loyalty of your spiritual support group when it includes Jesus.

Monday, June 6

Acts 28:15 The brothers there had heard that we were coming, and they traveled as far as the Forum of Appius and the Three Taverns to meet us.  At the sight of these men Paul thanked God and was encouraged.

Prayer: Jesus, thank you for all the times you have answered our prayers to bring hope to those who are searching.

Thought for the day: You can be a blessing today to someone who is praying to God for a word from on high.

Tuesday, June 7

Romans 1:9, 10 God, whom I serve with my whole heart in preaching the gospel of his Son, is my witness how constantly I remember you in my prayers at all times; and I pray that now at last by God’s will the way may be opened for me to come to you.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we pray for laborers for the spiritual fields ripe for harvest.

Thought for the day:  I cannot think of a single missionary  who needs no prayer partners or willing co-workers.  Can you?

Wednesday, June 8

Acts 20:32 Now I commit you to God and to the word of his grace which can build you up and give you an inheritance among all those who are sanctified.

Prayer: Lord God, when we have prayed and spoken your good word we leave the spiritual well-being of our loved ones in your care.

Thought for the day:  Our power to direct or command our life or the lives of family and subordinates is a short-lived experience.

Thursday, June 9

Matthew 5:14 Now you are the light of the world.  A city on a hill cannot be hidden.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, may we never obscure the beauty of your message of love.

Thought for the day:  What did Diogenes ask of the visitor?  He asked that his visitor not block the sunshine.

Friday, June 10

Deuteronomy 31:6 Be strong and courageous.  Do not be afraid or terrified because of them, for the Lord your God goes with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, let us your children be ever mindful of your abiding presence.

Thought for the day:  The first day of school is rarely frightening if the child knows the parent is close at hand.

Saturday, June 11

John 8: 12 When Jesus spoke again to the people, he said, “I am the light of the world.  Whoever follows me will never walk in darkness, but will have the light of life.”

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, in this dark world may the warmth and brilliance of your light in us draw others to you.

Thought for the day:  The experienced sailor can set and steer a true course by the light of the stars
