Week Thirty-seven — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — The Works of Elisha — 2 Kings

Sunday, September 11

2 Kings 5: 13, 14 Naaman’s servants went to him and said, “My father, if the prophet had told you to do some great thing would you not have done it?  How much more then, when he tells you, ‘Wash and be cleansed’?” So he went down and dipped himself in the Jordan seven times, as the man of God had told him, and his flesh was restored and became clean like that of a young boy.

Prayer: O merciful God, may we hear and obey your commands.

Thought for the day:  How much could be accomplished if we did what God asked us to do.

Monday, September 12

Zechariah 4:10 “Who despises the day of small things?  Men will rejoice when they see the plumb line in the hand of Zerubbabel.

Prayer: Lord God, we dedicate ourselves to serve as you request.

Thought for the day:  Small requests become big requests when they become family requests for service.

Tuesday, September 13

I Corinthians 2:9 However, as it is written:  “No eye has seen, no ear has heard, no mind has conceived what God has prepared for those who love him.”

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we believe you have better things in store for us all.

Thought for the day: One who knows God’s love can glue together many pieces of the puzzle of life.

Wednesday, September 14

Isaiah 1:18 “Come now, let us reason together,” says the Lord.  “Though your sins are like scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; thought they are red as crimson, they shall be like wool.”

Prayer: Lord God, you can do it; you can make us pure and holy for your worship and service.

Thought for the day: New fallen snow is naturally pure.

Thursday, September 15

Hebrews 10:21,22 and since we have a great priest over the house of God, let us draw near to God with a sincere heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled to cleanse us from a guilty conscience and having our bodies washed with pure water.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, you have cleansed us so that we may draw near to God.

Thought for the day:  If your religion sold you a ticket in the nose-bleed section, you need to get a refund.

Friday, September 16

Acts 22:16 And now [Saul] what are you waiting for? Get up, be baptized and wash your sins away, calling on his name.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, in obedience we would do what you command to wash away our sins.

Thought for the day:  True obedience does not dictate its own terms of satisfaction.

Saturday, September 17

I John 1:7 But if we walk in the light as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from every sin.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, may you blood cleans us of all our sins.

Thought for the day: Sanitizers remove what deodorizers just conceal.
