Week Forty — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — The Letters of St. Peter — I Peter 2:9 — Royal Priests

Sunday, October 2

1 Peter 2:9 But you are a chosen people, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people belonging to God, that you may declare the praises of him who called you out of darkness into his wonderful light.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we are your priests, and you are our high priest.

Thought for the day: A royal priest has both a spiritual endorsement and a social endorsement.

Monday, October 3

Isaiah 61:6 And you will be called priests of the Lord, you will be named ministers of our god.  You will feed on the wealth of nations and in their riches you will boast.

Prayer:  Lord God, we humbly take upon ourselves the mantle of your priesthood.

Thought for the day:  For some family and friends you may be the only priest they shall know.

Tuesday, October 4

Revelation 20:6 Blessed and holy are those who have part in the first resurrection.  The second death has no power over them, but they will be priests of God and of Christ and will reign with him for a thousand years.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, may we find joy in service to you both now and in eternity.

Thought for the day:  In heaven worship will be our occupation and our leisure.

Wednesday, October 5

Romans 15: 15, 16 I have written to you quite boldly on some points, as if to remind you of them again, because of the grace God gave me to be a minister of Christ Jesus to the Gentiles with the priestly duty of proclaiming the gospel of God so that the Gentiles might become an offering acceptable to God, sanctified by the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we give our thanks for every pastor, missionary, and teacher who brought to us your good news.

Thought for the day: Every convert to Christ has a romance story to tell, for God loved that soul.

Thursday, October 6

Hebrews 7:23, 24 Now there have been many of those priests, since death prevented them from continuing in office; but because Jesus lives forever he has a permanent priesthood.

Prayer:  Lord God, thank you for giving your Son to be our high priest forever.

Thought for the day: Jesus became a high priest by a vote of three – the Father, the Son, and the Spirit.

Friday, October 7

Hebrews 13:15 Through Jesus therefore, let us continually offer to God a sacrifice of praise – the fruit of lips that confess his name.

Thought for the day:  As you prepare to pray reverently, quietly repeat the name of Jesus.

Saturday, October 8

Psalm 116: 17 I will sacrifice a thank offering to you and call on the name of the Lord.

Prayer:  Lord God, we bring you our offering of thanks knowing that the Son has brought for us the sacrifice for forgiveness.

Thought for the day:  The better the orchestra leader is the sweeter the symphony will sound.
