Sunday, October 23

I Peter 5:10,11 And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.  To him be the power for ever and ever. Amen.

Prayer: Lord God, our strength is in you.

Thought for the day: Fractured bones become stronger when they mend.

Monday, October 24

Job 1:7 The Lord said to Satan, “where have you come from?” Satan answered the Lord, “From roaming through the earth and going back and forth in it.

Prayer: Lord God, deliver us from evil, we pray in Jesus’ name.

Thought for the day: Even after the war for your soul was won there was no cease-fire.

Tuesday, October 25

Philippians 4:6, 7  Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving present your request to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Prayer:  O Jesus, we would leave our anxieties outside the door as we enter your sanctuary of peace.

Thought for the day: Some monkeys are caught by their refusal to release a bit of food placed in a small-mouth jar.

Wednesday, October 26

2 Thessalonians 2:16-17 May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal encouragement and good hope encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.

Prayer: Lord God, in this troubled world we need your eternal encouragement to carry on.

Thought for the day: Stars in the dark of the night shine bright.

Thursday, October 27

Psalm 18:32, 33 It is God who arms me with strength and makes my way perfect. He makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to stand on the heights.

Prayer: Lord God, for all of moments of all of the day give us strength to live for your praise.

Thought for the day: The feet of a deer are more nimble and dainty than those of a ballerina.

Friday, October 28

Romans 8:28 And we know that in all things God works for the good of those who love him, who have been called according to his purpose.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, help us to live so we may see the good of the day lived for you.

Thought for the day: If you want to see gratitude in action, water a thirsty plant.

Saturday, October 29

James 1:12 Blessed is the man who perseveres under trial, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love him.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, help us to press on to the end.

Thought for the day: No disqualified race car driver may keep the trophy cup.
