Week Forty-seven — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Advent — Isaiah 7:14

Note: While the season of Advent begins next Sunday, our series will begin to explore the promise of the coming King, Jesus.

Sunday, November 20

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign:  The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son, and will call him Immanuel.

Prayer:  Lord God, you gave and you kept your word always.

Thought for the day:  With promise keepers you can share love, laughter, and life.

Monday, November 21

Deuteronomy 6:16 Do not test the Lord your God as you did at Masah.

Prayer: Lord God, forgive us when we stray.

Thought for the day: Patience is not a mousetrap waiting to be sprung.

Tuesday, November 22

Psalm 89:29 I will establish [David’s] line forever, his throne as long as the heavens endure.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, you were meant to rule from the beginning of time.

Thought for the day:  Earthly rulers come and go, but Christ sits still on the eternal throne.

Wednesday, November 23

Ezekiel 37:24,25 My servant David will be king over them, and they will all have one shepherd.  They will follow my laws and be careful to keep my decrees.  They will live in the land that I gave to my servant Jacob, the land where your fathers lived.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, you are the shepherd king who will lead your people through green pastures and beside still waters.

Thought for the day:  Jesus said it: the good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep.

Thanksgiving Day — Thursday, November 24

Psalm 77:11,12 I will remember the deeds of the Lord; yes, I will remember your miracles of long ago.  I will meditate on all your works and consider all your mighty deeds.

Prayer: Lord God Almighty, on this our day of Thanksgiving we are blessed as we meditate upon your goodness and your loving-kindness.

Thought for the day: Have you taken time to count your blessings and name them one-by-one to see what God has done?

Friday, November 25

Isaiah 9:6 For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders.  And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Prayer:  Lord God, the gift of your Son is a treasure beyond reckoning.

Thought for the day:  A priceless gem is not placed on a half-off sale at a discount warehouse on black Friday.

Saturday, November 26

Isaiah 9:7 Of the increase of his government and peace there will be no end.  He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time and forever.  The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, may the peace of your love surround us in all places all our days.

Thought for the day: The secure and the righteous accept the power of peace.
