Week Fifty — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Advent — Matthew 1:20,21

Sunday, December 11

Matthew 1:20, 21 But after he had considered this an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit.  She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.

Prayer: Lord God, you have sent us your Son to show us your love.

Thought for the day: Not tomorrow, not just yesterday, but on this day call on the name of Jesus.

Monday, December 12

Psalm 145:13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom, and your dominion endures through all generations.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, your kingdom is forever and ever.

Thought for the day: In the great visions of the prophet Daniel there was only one kingdom that would stand forever.

Tuesday, December 13

John 18:38 Jesus said,” My kingdom is not of this world.  If it were, my servants would fight to prevent my arrest by the Jews. But now my kingdom is from another place.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, may we ever be mindful of our first and forever citizenship in your kingdom.

Thought for the day: The Christian is ever an immigrant and refugee whose passport is a Bible.

Wednesday, December 14

Rev. 20: 11,12 Then I saw a great white throne and him who was seated on it.  Earth and sky fled from his presence, and there was no place for them.  And I saw the dead, great and small, standing before the throne, and books were opened.  Another book was opened which is the book of life.  The dead were judged according to what they had done as recorded in the books.

Prayer:  Lord God, only in the Son shall we be prepared to face the coming judgment of the dead.

Thought for the day:  Why did the ancient Egyptians, the Romans, the Eastern religions, and others believe there was a coming judgement for the dead?

Thursday, December 15

Psalm 132: 11, 12 The Lord swore an oath to David, a sure oath that he will not revoke: “One of your own descendants I will place on your throne – If your sons keep m covenant and the statutes I teach them then their sons will sit on your throne for ever and ever.”

Prayer:  Lord God, for every promise and every fulfillment from you we are grateful.

Thought for the day: God has never been late with his child support.

Friday, December 16

Psalm 93: 1, 2 The Lord reigns, he is robed in majesty; the Lord is robed in majesty and is armed with strength.  The world is firmly established it cannot be moved.  Your throne was established long ago, you are from all eternity.

Prayer:  Lord God, before our generation and for generations to come you are King.

Thought for the day:  Royalty is royalty twenty-four seven.

Saturday, December 17

Matthew 6:10 Your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, may your will be done among us as it is in heaven.

Thought for the day:  Do the will of God and watch heaven come down and glory fill your soul.
