Week Fifty-one — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Advent — John 1:14

Sunday, December 18

John 1:14 The Word became flesh and lived for a while among us.  We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father full of grace and truth.

Prayer: O God, thank you for sending your only begotten son to dwell with us.

Thought for the day: When you send the best, you have no regret.

Monday, December 19

I John 1:1, 2 That which was from the beginning, which we have heard, which we have seen with our eyes, which we have looked at and our hands have touched – this we proclaim concerning the Word of life.  The life appeared: we have seen it and testify to it, and we proclaim to you the eternal life, which was with the Father and has appeared to us.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we believe the testimony of your apostles who witnessed your ministry on earth.

Thought for the day:  Some testimonies hold up in any court any time.

Tuesday, December 20

Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, thank you for showing us the love of the Father for hurting humanity.

Thought for the day: People really do remember how you treat them.

Wednesday, December 21

Philippians 2:6-7 Who, being in very nature God, did not consider equality with God something to be grasped, but made himself nothing, taking the very nature of a servant, being made in human likeness.

Prayer: God, may we find in the message of Christmas the humility in divine love.

Thought for the day: A songwriter said, “Out of the ivory palaces into a world of woe, only his great, eternal love made my Savior go.”

Thursday, December 22

Hebrews 2; 17-18 For this reason he had to be made like his brothers in every way, in order that he might become a merciful and faithful high priest in service to God, and that he make atonement for the sins of the people. Because he himself suffered when he was tempted, he is able to help those who are being tempted.

Prayer: O Jesus, what a comfort we find in knowing that you know, you really do know how it is.

Thought for the day: A mile walked in someone else’s moccasins produces blisters in places we never imagined.

Friday, December 23

John 1:10-11 He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him.  He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him.

Prayer:  Heavenly Father, forgive us for all the times we have turned a cold shoulder on your Son.

Thought for the day: Those we count as best of friends were once strangers to us.

Saturday, December 24

Revelation 1:7, 8 Look he is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see him, even those who pierced him; and all the people of the earth will mourn because of him.  So shall it be! Amen.  “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, on this Christmas evening prepare our hearts anew for your coming.

Thought for the day:  What would happen if we hung mistletoe at every entrance to our dwelling?
