Sunday, December 25

Matthew 2:1,2 After Jesus was born in Bethlehem I Judea, during the time of King Herod Magi from the east came to Jerusalem and asked, “where is the one who has been born king of the Jews?  We saw his star I the east and have come to worship him.”

Prayer:  Lord God, in these wonderful days of celebration we come looking for a promise, a King.

Thought for the day: A Christmas greeting said, “Wise men still seek Him.”

Monday, December 26

Matthew 2: 4,5 When [Herod] had called together all the people’s chief priests and teachers of the law, he asked them where the Christ was to be bon.  “In Bethlehem in Judea,” they replied, “for this is what the prophet has written.”

Prayer: Lord Jesus, may your plan for our lives unfold by the will of God as the plan for your coming unfolded centuries ago.

Thought for the day: The Bible contains the wisdom even kings seek.

Tuesday, December 27

Micah 5: 2 But you, Bethlehem Eprathah, though you are small among the clans of Judah, out of you will come for me one who will be ruler over Israel, whose origins fare from old, from ancient times.

Prayer:  Lord God, may we not despise small things in your great plan of hope and salvation

Thought for the day:  The importance of a town is not to be judged by the number of its stop lights.

Wednesday, December 28

Proverbs 3: 5,6 Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding; in all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, this day you ask again our trust as we follow you to year’s end and year’s beginning.

Thought for the day:  We grow into trust or we grow out of trust.

Thursday, December 29

Proverbs 21:30 There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we rejoice that your plan to come and save humanity was fulfilled.

Thought for the day:  With the gifts of the Magi Joseph and Mary could reside in Egypt debt free for a season.

Friday, December 30

John 12: 20, 21 Now there were some Greeks among those who went up to worship at the Feast.  They came to Philip who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, with a request. “Sir,” they said, “we would like to see Jesus.”

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, as we encounter one after another searching soul may we point them to you.

Thought for the day:  Someone is watching to find the Jesus in your life.

Saturday, December 31

Matthew 2:11 On coming to the house [the magi] saw the child with his mother Mary, and the bowed down and worshiped him.  Then they opened their treasures and presented him with gifts of gold, and incense and myrrh.

Prayer:  Lord God, we worship the blessed Son whom you sent to be our savior.

Thought for the day:  Your worship can be a journey’s ending and a journey’s beginning.
