Week Four — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Words of Jesus in Matthew — Matthew 7: 3,4

Sunday, January 22

Matthew 7:3,4 Why do you look at the speck of sawdust in your brother’s eye and pay no attention to the plank in your own eye?  How can you say to your brother, ‘let me take the speck out of your eye,’ when all the time there is a plank in your own eye?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, even before we confess you see all our flaws and still love us.

Thought for the day: Love scars are badges of courage.

Monday, January 23

Psalm 26: 2,3 Test me, O lord, and try me, examine my heart and my mind; for your love is ever before me, and I walk continually in your truth.

Prayer: Jesus, you can always find the loveable when you look within us.

Thought for the day: God knows you better than you know yourself.

Tuesday, January 24

Psalm 139:23, 24 Search me, O God, and know my heart; test me and know my anxious thoughts.  See if there is any offensive way in me, and lead me in the way.

Prayer: Lord God, we would be led in the everlasting way.

Thought for the day:  Some heavy make-up is just perfume.

Wednesday, January 25

John 7:23,24 Now if a child can be circumcised on the Sabbath so that the law of Moses may not be broken, why are you angry with me for healing the whole man on the Sabbath. Stop judging by mere appearances, and make a right judgment.

Prayer:  Lord, we ask your forgiveness when we have been unforgiving.

Thought for the day: Self-forgiveness may be the hardest forgiveness to accept.

Thursday, January 26

Romans 14: 12,13 So then, each of us will give an account of himself to God.  Therefore let us stop passing judgment on one another.  Instead, make up your mind not to put any stumbling block or obstacle in your brother’s way.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, may our living draw men and women closer to you.

Thought for the day: Can you imagine reading before God the ledger of your deeds for a single day?

Friday, January 27

2 Corinthians 13:5 Examine yourselves to see whether you are in the faith; test yourselves. Do you not realize that Christ Jesus is in you – unless, of course, you fail the test?

Prayer:  O Jesus, may we ever find ourselves lost in your fellowship of love.

Thought for the day: If you don’t close the screen door, the flies will come inside.

Saturday, January 28

Romans 8: 1,2 Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus, because through Christ Jesus the law of the Spirit of life set me free from the law of sin and death.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, in your amazing love we find our worth and our purpose.

Thought for the day: For the bailiff and the attorneys a court of law can be the safest place to be.
