Week Eight — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — The Life of Christ in Mark — Mark 9: 24, 25

Mark 9: 23,24 “If you can?” said Jesus.  “Everything is possible for him who believes.”  Immediately the boy’s father exclaimed, “I do believe; help me overcome my unbelief!”

Prayer:  Lord God, in your strength may we overcome our moments of unbelief.

Thought for the day: Belief opens new pathways to life.

I John 4: 4 You, dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you is greater than the one who is in the world.

Prayer:  Jesus, we give thanks for the Holy Spirit sent to your disciples.

Thought for the day: A single light has the power to brighten all the dark corners of a room

Titus 1:15 To the pure, all things are pure, but to those who are corrupted and do not believe, nothing is pure.  In fact, both their minds and consciences are corrupted.

Prayer:  Jesus, we give thanks for the purification that comes from belief in you.

Thought for the day:  Just eight drops of bleach can purify a gallon of water.

Mark 6:5, 6 He could not do many miracles there [ in Nazareth], except to lay hands on a few sick people and heal them.  He was amazed at their lack of faith.

Prayer:  Jesus, may you forgive us when our unbelief has hindered your work.

Thought for the day:  If there an Olympics event for believing, who would be in the competition?

John 11: 39, 40 “Take away the stone,” [Jesus] said.  “But Lord, “said Martha the sister of the dead man, “by this time there is a bad odor, for he has been there four days.” Then Jesus said, “Did I not tell you that if you believed, you would see the glory of God?”

Prayer:  Jesus, we serve you that we might see the glory of God.

Thought for the day:  Our recorders need to be programmed to save and play incidents that bring glory to God.

I John 5: 4, 5 for everyone born of God overcomes the world. This is the victory that has overcome the world, even our faith.  Who is it that has overcome the world? Only he who believes that Jesus is the Son of God.

Prayer: Lord God, through faith in your Son we find life that overcomes the world.

Thought for the day: To live joyfully in the world one must learn how to overcome the world in faith.

Romans 9:33 As it is written: “See I lay in Zion a stone that causes men to stumble and a rock that makes them fall, and the one who trusts in him will never be put to shame.”

Prayer:  Jesus, Son of God, we trust you as Savior of the world.

Thought for the day: Stair steps are a stationary means of transportation, they are built to get you somewhere.
