Week Forty-eight — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Paul finds Joy in the Gospel — Philippians 4: 6,7

Philippians 4: 6,7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your request to God.  And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.

Prayer:  Lord God, we set aside our anxieties as we find our peace in you.

Thought for the day:  In faith Daniel was at peace in the lions’ den

Matthew 6: 25, 26 Therefore I tell you, do not worry about your life, what you will eat or drink; or about your body, what you will wear.  Is not life more important than food, and the body more important than clothes?  Look at the birds of the air; they do not sow or reap or store away in barns, and yet your heavenly Father feeds them.  Are no you much more valuable than they?

Prayer:  Lord God, we give thanks for your abundant provisions for your children.

Thought for the day:  Birdsong is cheerful in the heat of summer and in the dead of winter.

Psalm 50: 14, 15 Sacrifice thank offerings to God fulfill your vows to the Most High, and call up on me in the day of trouble; I will deliver you and you will honor me.

Prayer:  Lord God, our deliverance is in your hands.

Thought for the day:  Though many have tried to plagiarize it, God wrote the first edition of The Book of Blessings.

2 Corinthians 13: 11 Finally brothers, good bye.  Aim for perfection, listen to my appeal, be of one mind, live in peace.  And the God of love and peace will be with you.

Prayer:  Lord God, we are so pleased that you are the God of love and peace.

Thought for the day: A godly home is a peaceful home.

Romans 13: 5, 6 May the God who gives endurance and encouragement give you a spirit of unity among yourselves as you follow Christ Jesus, so that with one heart and mouth you may glorify the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.

Lord God, truly the strength to endure is a heavenly gift from you.

Thought for the day:  Exercise and endurance are a matching set

Romans 13: 11,12 And do this, understanding the present time.  The hour has come for you to wake up from your slumber, because our salvation is nearer now than when we first believed.  The night is nearly over; the day is almost here.  So let us put aside the deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light.

Prayer:  Jesus, Son of God, we eagerly await your return.

Thought for the day:  Folk work harder when the hour is short.

John 14: 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you.  I do not give to you as the world gives.  Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, may we find our rest in your peace and not the false peace of the world.

Thought for the day:  Real peacemakers hide no hand behind their back.
