Week Forty-nine — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Jesus’ Ancestry — Matthew 1:1, 2

Sunday

Matthew 1: 1, 2 A record of the genealogy of Jesus Christ the son of David, the son of Abraham. Abraham was the father of Isaac, Isaac, the father of Jacob; Jacob the father of Judah and his brothers.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, like Abraham of old we would be counted in the family of faith.

Thought for the day:  Faith rises above the limitations of time and space.

Monday

Isaiah 7:14 Therefore the Lord himself will give you a sign.  The virgin will be with child and will give birth to a son and will call him Immanuel.

Prayer:  Almighty God, Our Heavenly Father, the very thought of you coming to live among us leaves us in humble awe.

Thought for the day:  Jesus, the very Son of God, is one immigrant come from a great distance whom we dare not turn away.

Tuesday

Matthew 1:18 This is how the birth of Jesus Christ came about. His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be with child through the Holy Spirit.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, truly your coming to this world to spend time with us was a miracle.

Thought for the day: Heaven keeps sending special souls into our lives to share the love of God.

Wednesday

Luke 3:38 [The ancestry of Jesus was] the son of Enos the Son of Seth, the son of Adam, the son of God.

Prayer: Lord God, when we count the godly ancestors in our family tree we find ourselves moving closer to you.

Thought for the day: In faith, your ancestors prayed that your generation would find God.

Thursday

Genesis 12:3 I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.

Prayer: Almighty God, through the ages you have prepared a blessing for our generation.

Thought for the day: Time capsules pass love from one generation to another.

Friday

Hebrews 1: 5, 6 For to which of the angels did God ever say, “You are my Son; today I have become your Father”? Or again, “I will be his Father and he will be my Son”?

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we confess you are the only begotten Son of God sent by God for our salvation.

Thought for the day: Why worship an angel, when you can worship the Lord of angels?

Saturday

Colossians 1:15 He is the image of the invisible God, the firstborn over all creation.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, as we travel life’s narrow pathway we are so grateful you stopped to show us God’s mercy, grace, and love.

Thought for the day: The songwriter said, “Turn your eyes on Jesus, look full in his wonderful face, and the things of earth will grow strangely dim, in the light of his glory and grace.”
