New Year’s Week — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — The New Covenant — Jeremiah 31: 33.34

Jeremiah 31: 33, 34 “This is the covenant I will make with the house of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord.  “I will put my law in their minds and write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they will be my people.  No longer will a man teach his neighbor, or a man his brother, saying, ‘Know the Lord,’ because they will all know me, from the least of them to the greatest,” declares the Lord.  “For I will forgive their wickedness and will remember their sins no more.”

Prayer:  Almighty God, our Heavenly Father, we would enter anew into covenant with you.

Thought for the day:  There is no better partner in covenant than God,

Isaiah 43:25 I, even I, am he who blots out your transgressions, for my own sake, and remembers your sins no more.

Prayer:  Lord God, your forgiving spirit moves us to humility and love.

Thought for the day:  If God is content to forget our transgressions, why would anyone be eager to remember them?

2 Corinthians 5: 17 Therefore, if any one is in Christ, he is a new creation, the old has gone, the new has come.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, in you we find the glorious hope of a new life for God, others, and ourselves.

Thought for the day:  By God’s grace you do have it to do over again.

Psalm 103: 11.12 For as high as the heavens are above the earth, so great is his love for those fear him; as far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Prayer:  Lord God, we rejoice that the terms of your forgiveness are irreversible

Thought for the day:  If your sins go east by the grace of God, then you need never fear meeting them if your travel to God leads west.

Ezekiel 36: 26, 27 I will give you a new heart and put a new spirit in you; I will remove from you your heart of stone and give you a heart of flesh.  And I will put my Spirit in you and move you to follow my decrees and be careful to keep my laws.

Prayer:  O God, thanks be to you that you give the strength of the Holy Spirit to lead a new life.

Thought for the day:  God is the most successful heart transplant surgeon ever.

Ezekiel 37: 26, 27 I will make a covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting covenant.  I will establish them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever.  My dwelling place will be with them; I will be their God, and they will be my people.

Prayer:  Lord God, deep within we have longed for a covenant of peace and good will among humanity.

Thought for the day:  Those who keep peace with a sword have never discovered the secret of keeping peace with a heart full of love.

Hebrews 12: 23, 24 [You have come] to the church of the firstborn, whose names are written in heaven.  You have come to God, the judge of all men, to the spirits of righteous men made perfect, to Jesus the mediator of a new covenant, and to the sprinkled blood that speaks a better word tan the blood of Abel.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, in this new season we honor you as the mediator of the new covenant of hope and forgiveness.

Thought for the day:  When we were in a hopeless hostage situation spiritually, Jesus successfully negotiated a way out.
