Week Thirteen — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — The Gospel of John — John 17: 20, 21

Sunday

John 17: 20, 21 My prayer is not for them alone.  I pray also for those who will believe I me through their message, that all of them may be one, Father just as you are in me and I am in you.  May they also be in us so that the world may believe that you have sent me.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, may our love for our brothers and sisters be the answer to your prayer today.

Thought for the day: Showing the love of Jesus is an answer to someone’s prayer.

Monday

Ephesians 4: 2, 3 Be completely humble and gentle; be patient, bearing with one another in love.  Make every effort to keep the unity of the Spirit through the bond of peace.

Prayer:  Lord God, for every division created may you forgive us, from possible division may you spare us, and from every division suffered may you heal us.

Thought for the day:  Divide and conquer is an old and reliable enemy tactic.

Tuesday

Colossians 3:13, 14 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have against one another.  Forgive as the Lord forgave you.  And over all these virtues put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, may we be your instruments of peace and unity in the church.

Thought for the day:  The history of the home, the church, the world could be rewritten with three simple words: “We forgave them.”

Wednesday

Psalm 133: 1, 2 How good and pleasant it is when brothers live together in unity.  It is like precious oil poured on the head.  Running down on the beard, running down on Aaron’s head, down upon the collar of his robes.

Prayer:  Lord God, we give thanks for the peace of unity in your spirit.

Thought for the day:  The strength of the chain is found in its unbroken links.

Thursday

I John 4:20, 21 If anyone says, “I love God,” yet hates his brother, he is a liar.  For anyone who does not love his brother, whom he has seen, cannot love God, whom he has not seen.  And he has given us this command.  Whoever loves God must also love his brother.

Prayer:  Lord God, may we find your love for every child of God we meet.

Thought for the day:  Hatred destroys the hater.

Friday

I Corinthians 12: 12, 13 The body is a unit, though it is made up of many parts; and through all its parts are many, they form one body. So it is with Christ. For we were all baptized by one Spirit into one body – whether Jews or Greeks, slave or free – and we were all given the one Spirit to drink.

Prayer: Lord Jesus, we who are members of your body would together bring honor and praise to you.

Thought for the day:  Happy families know well how to harmonize.

Saturday

I Thessalonians 5: 17 Pray continually

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we join you in praying for the unity of believers that the world may believe in you.

Thought for the day:  If you want to be more like Jesus, pray more.
