Week Nineteen — Verse by Verse Devotional Series — Forty Days of Proof — John 20: 30, 31

John 20:30, 31 Jesus did many other miraculous signs in the presence of his disciples, which are not recorded in this book.  But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

Prayer:  Jesus, for all the resurrection signs given us in scriptures we give thanks.

Thought for the day:  Not more signs but belief in the signs given makes a world of difference

Luke 24:38, 29 He said to them, “why are you troubled, and why do doubts rise in your minds?  Look at my hands and my feet.  It is I myself! Touch me and see; a ghost does not have flesh and bones as you see I have.”

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we given thanks that you offered yourself to your doubting disciples as proof that you were alive.

Thought for the day:  The best person to find a counterfeit is someone who knows the real thing.

Matthew 12: 40 For as Jonah was three days and three nights in the belly of a huge fish, so the Son of Man will be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, you kept your promise to return in three days.

Thought for the day:  It was a Jewish belief that the third day marked the time when the body and the spirit were permanently separated.

Matthew 28:16,17 Then the eleven disciples went to Galilee, to the mountain where Jesus had told them to go.  When they saw him, they worshiped him; but some doubted.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we pray that we may learn from your disciples’ doubts that we have reason to believe.

Thought for the day:  The doubting of the disciples in no way jeopardized the truth of Jesus’ resurrection.

Mark 16:14 Later Jesus appeared to the Eleven as they were eating; he rebuked them for their lack of faith and their stubborn refusal to believe those who had seen him after he had risen.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, may you forgive our stubbornness to believe.

Thought for the day:  Unbelief may be the only thing that is stopping you from receiving a blessing.

Isaiah 53: 11 After the suffering of his soul, he will see the light of life and be satisfied; by his knowledge my righteous servant will justify many, and he will bear their iniquities.

Prayer:  Lord God, we rejoice that Jesus saw the light of life and bears the iniquities of many.

Thought for the day:  Not only was it prophesied that Jesus would rise, but it was prophesied that he would show mercy to those who had sinned against him.

I Corinthians 15: 6,7 After that, he appeared to more than five hundred of the brothers at the same time, most of whom are still living, though some have fallen asleep.  Then he appeared to James, then to all the apostles, and last o fall he appeared to me also, as to one abnormally born.

Prayer:  Lord Jesus, we rejoice with believers of old that you are alive evermore.

Thought for the day:  It is promised that those who believe shall see.
