R. M. Adams’ astute presentation of Malebranche presents a fascinating study.  The aging scholar displays his own talents in describing how Malebranche explains his view of occasionalism.  Then comes the avalanche of questions that would interest no-one.  How long was Malebranche in thought upon occasionalism?  What did he believe he had accomplished? For instance, did he believe he had recovered the glory of God?  The internal questions come: Did he see this as a way to resolve evil?  Did he see this as a way to explain ethical behavior?  Then the conviction: Why, oh why has not no-one continued on this pathway of solitary thought?  Ahhhh.
